Graduate Admissions

All graduate students are encouraged to apply online by visiting www.midlandu.edu. There is no application fee for applications to graduate programs, unless otherwise indicated.

Regular Admission

Applicants must submit official copies of all college transcripts, as well as any program-specific required admissions materials. Regular admission is subject to program-specific requirements, including GPA and prerequisite courses, as outlined below:

Master's Admission

To be considered for regular admission to the graduate program, a student should have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a conferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution(s).

Doctor of Education

To be considered for regular admission to the graduate program, a student should have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a conferred Master's degree from an accredited institution.

Provisional Admission

A student who has met the basic requirements such as GPA, but is still awaiting one or more documents required by the Admission Office may be granted provisional admission. A student who is granted provisional admission must submit or satisfy any outstanding requirements within 60 days after the first day of registration in order to continue in the program.

Probationary Admission

In certain exceptional cases, a student who does not meet minimum program requirements, such as GPA requirements or previous degree completion, but presents evidence of ability to succeed in a graduate program, may be granted probationary admission with program dean approval. The probationary status may be removed after the student has demonstrated academic ability by earning “B-” or better status for the first nine credits of graduate courses and/or completing any preparatory coursework in advance of the program, as determined by the dean of the program. Applicants who don’t meet the 3.0 GPA requirement for regular admission are still encouraged to apply to be considered for provisional admission.

International Students

International students will need to submit additional admissions materials, and demonstrate proficiency in English.  Proof of English language proficiency may be demonstrated by:

●       Duolingo: A Duolingo English Test score of 100.

●       A minimum TOEFL score for admission to any graduate degree program is 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 80 on the Internet-based test. Some departments may require a higher score. Information regarding the TOEFL is available at www.toefl.org.

●       A minimum for the academic IELTS is an overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band score below 5.0. As with the TOEFL, some departments may set higher standards. Information regarding the IELTS is available at www.ielts.org.

●       Duolingo, TOEFL, and IELTS scores may not be more than two (2) years old.

●       Completing the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in the United States.

International transcripts and documents must be submitted in English. If translated, they must be certified.  All transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited agency for the U.S. equivalent before submitting to the University Registrar for transfer of credit except for those in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom. Midland University recommends International Education Evaluation, World Education Services (https://www.wes.org), ECE (https:/www.ece.org), or InCred (https://www.incredevals.org).

Midland University will not issue a student an I-20 for an online program, and the bulk of our graduate and doctoral programming is delivered online. Please consider program modality before applying

Non-Degree Seeking Student

A student who wishes to enroll in graduate courses for professional advancement, but does not plan to complete a degree program, may apply for non-degree status by completing the online application. If the non-degree student intends to apply these courses to a degree program, the student must submit a new application and submit all required entrance material. No more than 18 credits earned as a non-degree seeking student at Midland may be applied to a particular program.

Graduate-level endorsement and certificate programs are considered non-degree seeking programs and students should submit the appropriate application.

False Documents Admissions Policy

Midland University has a zero tolerance policy for students who submit false documents as part of their admissions process. Students identified as having submitted false documents will be denied admission to Midland University, and will lose their deposit if one has been paid. Students are eligible for a re-review if documents are submitted directly to Midland University from a verified source (InCred, Duolingo, IELTS, CollegeBoard, etc.). If documents submitted from the verified source match the original documents submitted, a student may move forward in the Admissions process if they meet admissions criteria.
