A Midland University High Ability Learner Endorsement candidate will be able to:
1. Design cognitively complex learning environments for high ability learners that foster a love for learning, personal and social responsibility, multicultural competence, and interpersonal and technical communication skills (NAGC Standard 4; NDE Rule 24 Guidelines Standard A)
2. Execute strategies and procedures to identify learners of high ability (NAGC Standard 2; NDE Rule 24 Guidelines Standard C)
3. Develop high ability learner programs based on philosophical, theoretical, and empirical evidence; and consideration of individual learner differences socially, emotionally, academically, and communicatively (NAGC Standard 1 and 3; NDE Rule 24 Guidelines Standard B and D)
4. Apply professional development theories and strategies in one’s professional setting (NAGC Standard 6; NDE Rule 24 Guidelines Standard F)
5. Evaluate tenets of effective program management and evaluation (NACG Standard 2 and 5; NDE Rule 24 Guidelines Standard E and G)

This program is 18 credits and can be completed online in one year. In order to participate, a candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate. The program includes 90 clinical hours with experiences in primary and secondary settings. Clinical hours must be obtained in classrooms with qualified HAL instructors.
